Educator. Advocate. Community Leader.
Willie Turral is a former Beaufort County classroom teacher, youth development professional, nonprofit leader, and entrepreneur — and a graduate of the Charleston School of Law. He's spent much of his adult life working directly with children, families, educators, and community organizations, and he brings that classroom-to-policy perspective to his campaign for School Board.
His decision to run comes from a simple belief in personal responsibility: if you see a problem in your community, you get involved and help fix it. For Willie, that means stepping up for the children of District 3.
"I don't want the only time we hear about a young person from District 3 to be because somebody was shot or somebody was arrested. I want our children making headlines because they became engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers, attorneys, tradesmen, artists, business owners, and community leaders."
— Willie TurralDistrict 3 has extraordinary children, families, educators, history, and culture. It has everything it needs to produce extraordinary outcomes — and this campaign is about refusing to accept anything less as permanent.
Willie believes the School Board must ask hard questions, study the data, demand accountability, support our educators, involve parents at every step, and build meaningful partnerships that expand real opportunities for students.
Rise Up District 3 is a call for our schools, families, educators, businesses, churches, community organizations, and leaders to work together around the success of our children.
Every decision should ultimately be measured against one question: are students learning, growing, and being prepared for life after graduation?
Recruit, retain, respect, and support quality educators — and make sure teachers have the resources and leadership they need to succeed.
Schools cannot succeed alone. Parents, families, community organizations, churches, businesses, mentors, and civic groups deserve a meaningful seat at the table.
Use data, measurable outcomes, open communication, and responsible oversight to determine whether programs and spending are actually helping students.
Build stronger partnerships with colleges, skilled trades, businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, professionals, mentors, and workforce programs.
Make sure talented students throughout District 3 are properly identified, challenged, and given access to opportunities that match their abilities.
“I'm not talking about another Promethean board. I'm talking about real people, real partnerships, real opportunities, and real networks surrounding our children.”
