Willie Turral is a former Beaufort County classroom teacher, youth development professional, nonprofit leader, and entrepreneur — and a graduate of the Charleston School of Law.
He has spent much of his adult life working directly with children, families, educators, and community organizations, first as a teacher and youth development professional, and later as a nonprofit and business leader.
Willie believes District 3 deserves leadership that understands education from every angle — the classroom, the community, the organization, and the policy table. That's the perspective he brings to the School Board.
His decision to run comes from a simple belief in personal responsibility: if you see a problem in your community, you get involved and help fix it. For Willie, that means stepping up for the children of District 3.
Willie was invited to serve as keynote speaker for Penn Center's "Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." event, where he spoke to attendees about keeping Dr. King's message alive for today's generation.
It's the same message Willie carries into this campaign: real leadership means showing up, speaking honestly, and doing the work to move a community forward — not just when it's convenient, but especially when it's hard.
That same hands-on, student-first approach is what Willie wants every classroom in District 3 to have access to — and it's part of why he's running for School Board.
From community forums to neighborhood porches, Willie is spending this campaign the same way he spent his career — showing up, listening first, and being direct about where he stands.
